Evaporators

Evaporators are an essential piece of equipment for most processes. They generally fall into one of two categories, falling film or suppressed boiling.

Evaporators are similar to heat exchangers in construction, but different in function. The process liquid is preheated to boiling temperature and then distributed through the tubes as a thin film with the use of a distribution tray or splash plate. As gravity pulls the liquid down through the tubes, steam from the shell side transfers heat to the product, boiling some of it off.

By running several evaporation effects, normally under vacuum pressure, a highly concentrated product is produced.  Often this is the final stage of the process.
